Liverpool in Work and the New Youth Employment Gateway programme
A number of new initiatives which aim to help unemployed 18-24 year olds into work will be launching today as part of the Liverpool City Region’s Youth Employment Gateway. The programme has been running for just over a year and is available to young people who live in the Liverpool City Region, covering the local authority areas of Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral. The second phase of the programme commences on 1st October 2015.
So far, the programme has supported over 1,650 unemployed young people, with over 400 finding employment. Referrals onto the programme are made by Job Centre Plus Work Coaches ensuring a wide range of support is available to young people who are looking for work or training opportunities.
From today, each young person starting on the programme will have access to a personalised budget of up to £500 and they will be able to decide how best it should be spent in order to improve their employment prospects. This can include but is not limited to occupational, accredited or non-accredited training courses, work related equipment or tools, personal protective equipment (PPE) or uniforms, CRB checks or the cost of travel.
In addition, the new Youth Employment Gateway website goes live today and can be used by anyone who is looking for employment or already in employment but looking for a change of career. The website can be used for a variety of purposes including:
Careers Advice & Guidance
Details of Local Services
Live Apprenticeship finder
Local Journey Planner
The site will be an essential tool for young people in their search for employment. Visit http://yeg.merseyinteractive.com/home to find out more about the site and the programme.
