John was referred to the Work Programme in March 2013 after being unemployed since 1998. His background was Warehouse and Fork Lift Truck work. John attended regular appointments with his adviser Debbie; and received help with Jobsearch and compiling an up to date CV. Debbie referred him to a ‘Get Ready for Work course’, Interview skills and Basic IT training. John was then able to job search using the Internet, had his own email address and Universal Jobmatch Account. In August 2013 Debbie referred John to Total Logistics Training, where he attended a 2 week course and received a Warehousing Level 1 Certificate and refreshed the Fork Lift Truck Licence.
To help with travel costs John also received a solo bus ticket for the 2 week course from Merseytravel. He continued to job search and was considering a range of job roles as well as warehouse vacancies. In December 2013 Debbie advised John of an opportunity with Glendale Managed Services for Ground Maintenance Operative. As part of the recruitment process he passed the required numeracy and literacy tests, attended an interview preparation session with Liverpool in Work and a formal interview with the employer. John was successful and started full time work in February 2014.
Debbie booked John an appointment with the Money advice service who advised him of any benefits he would be entitled to and worked out he was approximately £50 per week better off in work. She was also able to give him a Solo bus ticket for a month to help out with travel costs to work.
John is really enjoying his new job and is grateful for all the help he has received!
