Joanne had previously worked within a customer facing role but as she had been out of work for a while, Joanne felt that she was lacking confidence and was considering voluntary work to get her back into employment.
How did it happen?
Joanne is currently on the Work Programme and has been since May 2012 through Ingeus. In September Joanne was referred to the Vocational Routeway at Liverpool in Work for an 18 week Programme. Joanne originally wanted to work within the Care Sector, but after discussion with her Adviser she chose the Retail training.
Joanne's Adviser referred her to an Induction Session at Express Direct Retail Academy to find out more about the retail training. Joanne attended and decided to attend the 10 week training course at Express Direct. Joanne was put forward for a vacancy which was advertised through Liverpool in Work for Wilkinson's Store in Liverpool as a Sales Assistant. Joanne was offered an interview for the Sales Assistant, but it went so well Wilkinsons offered her a position as a Stock File Controller that they were currently recruiting for. Joanne was delighted as this position was a more skilled position within the store..
Joanne has now started working for Wilkinson's on 19th November, and has been offered 2 weeks training at other stores around Liverpool where she will gain in-house training.
What they say
Joanne really enjoyed the training at Express Direct, and got a lot from it. All the staff where really friendly, and offered her lots of support whilst she was there.
Joanne found Liverpool in Work staff very friendly and had a personal approach, Joanne would recommend both Express Direct and Liverpool in Work to anyone who wants to get into the retail industry.
What we say
Joanne really enjoyed the training, not only was she developing skills to work within a customer facing/retail position, she found the social aspect of the course really helped her to improve her confidence. Joanne has now made lots of friends as a result of the course.
Joanne is very happy that she is now back in employment, as she was unhappy being in receipt of JSA and not being able to offer her children a better lifestyle. She is now looking forward to being in a better financial situation, getting back into employment and having routine and structure to her week. Her children are also very happy that their Mum is working, and looking forward to payday!
